Steve Metz concentrates his practice in litigation involving bankruptcy, creditors' rights, title disputes and real estate. He frequently represents debtors, creditors and other parties in all types of bankruptcy cases and is admitted to practice in Mayland, Virginia and the District of Columbia. Steve also serves as a Subchapter V trustee in Chapter 11 cases filed under the Small Business Reorganization Act. He also regularly represents owners, lenders and other parties in real estate disputes, including matters involving lien priority, easements, equitable subrogation, reformation of deeds and deeds of trust, conflicts between neighbors, real estate disputes between family members, real estate contracts and other title-related actions in state and federal courts at the trial and appellate levels.
Steve previously served as President of the Maryland Bankruptcy Bar Association, and he currently serves as Treasurer of the National Association of Bankruptcy Trustees Foundation. In addition, Steve is a former Board Chair and remains on the Board of Identity, Inc., a non-profit located in Montgomery County, Maryland, whose mission is the pursuit of a just, equitable and inclusive society in the creation of opportunities for Latino and other historically underserved youth to realize their highest potential and thrive.
Steve also previously served as the practice group leader for Offit Kurman’s Creditors’ Rights, Reorganization and Bankruptcy Practice Group. Steve is also an active member of the National Association of Bankruptcy Trustees, the Walter Chandler American Inns of Court, the American Bankruptcy Institute, and the Maryland State Bar Association (Consumer Bankruptcy Section)
Prior to joining Offit Kurman, Steve clerked for the Honorable Theresa A. Nolan in the Circuit Court for Prince George’s County, Maryland, and Judges Mannes, Keir, Schneider and Derby in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Maryland. He also was a shareholder at a large regional firm in Maryland for many years.
Steve speaks regularly on topics involving bankruptcy, including at the Maryland Bankruptcy Bar Association’s Annual Spring Break CLE Program (for which he also is the CLE and Written Materials Coordinator) and has recently presented on the Small Business Reorganization Act, Nondischargeability of Corporate Debt in Subchapter V, Bankruptcy and Residential Landlord/Tenant matters, and Ethical Issues in Asset Sales and Committee Service.
