James W. Boyd was appointed as a United States Bankruptcy Judge, Western District of Michigan, in May 2014. He current presides over bankruptcy matters in Grand Rapids, Marquette, and Traverse City. Prior to his judicial service, he was a partner with the Traverse City law firm of Kuhn, Darling, Boyd and Quandt, PLC. From 1988-2014, he served as a Ch. 7 panel trustee and also served as a Ch. 11 operating and liquidation trustee in many cases. While a trustee, he served on the board of directors of the National Association of Bankruptcy Trustees from 1999-2013, and was the president of that organization in 2010. Judge Boyd is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute and the Federal Bar Association.
