Gary is an accomplished attorney with a proven track record of success in matters related to bankruptcy, business finance, transportation and commercial litigation. Gary has special expertise in maritime recovery and vessel arrests.
Gary Seitz served as a Chapter 7 Panel Trustee in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania from 1999 to 2024 and has served as Trustee in cases in New Jersey and Delaware.
In addition to other court appointed roles, Gary has acted as City Sequestrator for the City of Philadelphia since 2015, appointed by the court on petition of the City, to collect rents and pay expenses to satisfy City taxes and claims. Gary brought his deep experience in debt collection, trustee/receiver/ fiduciary services, operating and advising troubled businesses and efficient approach to managing tough cases to meet the sequestrator needs of the City.
Gary has extensive experience handling bankruptcy matters for creditors, asset purchasers and trustees. He has represented trustees and receivers in matters, including operating debtor’s businesses in both operating chapter 7 cases and in chapter 11 bankruptcy cases as well as out of court restructurings and receiverships.
Gary is the founding partner of Gellert Seitz Busenkell & Brown’s Philadelphia office. He is admitted to practice in state and federal courts in Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.
He joined the National Association of Bankruptcy Trustees (NABT) as a member in 1999, was first elected to its Board in 2016, served as President from 2022 to 2023 and continues to serve as a member of the Board. He serves as team leader of NABT delegates to the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law Working Group V Sessions at the UN in New York and Vienna.
He is a long time Proctor in Admiralty member of the Maritime Law Association and an active member of the international ShipArrested Network.
